Since receiving national attention in 2007 with their performance at the South by Southwest festival, Yeasayer’s been nothing if not unusual.

They’ve pegged themselves as “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel.” (NOT your mother’s gospel) They’ve toured with MGMT and played at festivals like Lollapalooza, Hove, Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo.

As promised, their sophomore album Old Blood was released yesterday, though it was leaked back in December. Nonetheless, the new record lives up to the Yeasayer name. The single, “Ambling Alp”, personifies the band’s mission. The electro beats and psychedelic rhythms can’t be pigeonholed, instead this band begs you to just enjoy and not worry about classifying them under ‘psychedelia’ or ‘80’s rock’ on you iPod. I would advise the same.
