Guitars not Guns Music Program begins in Athens

8 February 2010 No Comment

GA Grad-ptc2In a town known for its music, there should be a focus on teaching the kiddies the musical ropes. And of course, Athens is not one to let the small ones down. The Boy’s & Girl’s Club in Athens is starting a new music program.

The Guitars not Guns Music Program began in 2000 in San Jose, Calif. It has become an international charity that provides lessons (and guitars!) to foster children in a classroom setting with qualified teachers. The program has roots all across the US and Canada.

The Athens class will be taught by Roy Kennedy, Director of Music Therapy and two UGA students.  Caroline Aiken, an Athens guitarist and entertainer, will also be teaching.  The first class began today, on February 8th.
