Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed & many more collaborating on new Gorillaz album
Get ready for a new album from Gorillaz, the band Guinness Book of World Records dubbed the Most Successful Virtual Band. It’s been a long wait for a new one from Gorillaz, since 2005’s uber-successful Demon Days, and judging from the star-studded guest appearances lined up for the new release, this is one that will not disappoint.
Created in 1998 by Blur frontman Damon Albarn, Gorillaz is composed of four animated band members– 2D on vocals and keyboard, Murdoc on bass guitar, Noodle on lead guitar, and Russel on drums and percussion. Their music is a collaboration of various artists, with Albarn as the only permanent contributor. Their sound is alternative rock with latin, reggae and hip-hop influences. Demon Days went double platinum in the U.S., five times platinum in the U.K., and scored five Grammy nominations in 2006, of which they won Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
They’re ready to keep the successful streak going with their new album, set to release in 2010, titled Plastic Beach. And with such a solid list of contributors slated for the new album, it’s looking promising. Some of those included on the new album are Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed of the Velvet Underground, Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, Mos Def, Bobby Womack, The Horrors, and the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra.
All of these artists collaborating together should make for a pretty awesome album. And be prepared for something a little different from this animated band. Mastermind Albarn mentioned in an interview with The Guardian, that Plastic Beach is “the most pop record [he's] ever made.” Sounds good.
