Elf heads to Broadway
Traffic everywhere is out of control. Obnoxious lights spring up everywhere. People are either unusually grumpy or ridiculously cheery. And if you’re any other religion besides Christian, you’re in for a long month full of reminders that you’re not. Yes, folks, it’s Christmastime again. And with only four short days until the big event, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel.
I will admit I am something of a scrooge myself, but a major highlight during my Christmas holiday is watching the awesome movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel. And guess what? It’s headed to Broadway. A Christmas victory for all.
The movie, released in 2003, follows Buddy the Elf’s journey to New York City in search of his father and is now being transformed into a Broadway musical produced by Warner Brothers. Tomas Meehan and Bob Martin wrote the show, and the score is produced by Matt Sklar and Chad Beguelin.
An extensive stage reading held last week in New York received great early buzz. It is slated to open next Christmas.
So in the meantime, if you haven’t seen Elf, check it out. You won’t stop laughing. And be sure to remember: “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” Just not too loud, you may irritate your atheist neighbors.
