Athens legend Vic Chesnutt in coma
Beloved Athens singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt is in a coma, reports The New York Times and twitter posts by singer Kristin Hersh. While Chesnutt’s family hasn’t released details surrounding the singer’s condition, Hersh’s posts point to a possible suicide attempt and aren’t optimistic about Chesnutt’s chances for survival or recovery.
The 45-year-old Chesnutt is a true gem of Athens, GA music, moving there in the mid ’80s and being discovered by R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, who produced his first two records. Since then, Chesnutt has released over a dozen more albums, including two in 2009.
Stay tuned for details as they become available.
